I started this web page to tell what I saw as the truth. I think President Bush is a very good president and I know he has a much larger picture of immigration than I do. I would be hypocritical to pretend to agree with him though when I feel he is wrong. If I find I am wrong I will say so.
President Bush is proposing changes to the immigration laws in America. Do we need immigration reform? What is wrong with the immigration laws we already have? There is a lot that needs to be brought out about this before there is a change to the law made.
What will be done to deal with the illegal aliens that have already crossed our borders with no regard for existing laws? I cannot call these people immigrants because they did not try to immigrate. Many crossed the borders lucratively and maybe even as criminals in their home country. They came in deceitfully and breaking the laws of America with every step. They knew they were breaking the law because they came in trying to avoid lawful authority. They came in as criminals according to American law.
What about the employers who hire these illegal immigrants knowing they are here illegally now? They will continue to break the new law also.
I understand these new immigration laws allow an immigrant to save money in special government savings funds and they can take this money back to their country with them when they return. I have a couple of concerns here. Will they be able to put their money in these special government savings funds and then be able to use our welfare system and our medical clinics without using their money or drawing on these funds.
Will this new reform blanket the masses of illegal people who are here because they have no regard for our laws now? Do they honestly think this will change. I have my doubts?
I received this satirical picture from an anonymous person in the mail. It is from a liberal newspaper. I would give the newspaper credit if I knew who they were. I am putting it here because it shows what is on the mind of many conservatives also. It seems like no one, conservative or liberal can figure out the reasoning behind this dangerous move. I know there are a lot of things we don’t need to know but I really believe our presidents supporters as well as those that do not support him need to know the true reasons behind this seemingly ridiculous reform move. There is no evident benefit the US can get from this reform that me or anyone I talk too can see except that this is an easy way out to clean the slate when it comes to so many illegal aliens in the country that the government or law enforcement neither one want to deal with.
I heard that one of the reasons we are doing this is because it is hard to get some jobs filled in the USA. About the only jobs that can’t get filled here now are jobs at sweat houses from employers who are unwilling to pay honest wages. They depend on illegal aliens because they know they can work these people at very low wages under fear they will be sent back if they do not do it. Do you think this will change. Don’t bet on it!
I heard that we have to do something to help the countries these immigrants come from improve their productiveness so their citizens will not want to leave and come to America. America has just about been destroyed now because of NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). What more can be done? Our own companies are leaving like rats leaving a sinking ship looking for cheap labor and cheap production cost. Unemployment is still very high. Where are these companies national loyalty and patriotism? I believe in helping the world. I DO NOT believe in destroying our own nations welfare or security to please some foreign government or special interest group.
This reform is another bloodletting on America that is contributing to the downfall of America as a strength and power on the world stage. I find it very hard to believe this reform is President Bush’s idea. This has the ring of left wing pressure behind it. I know the left is praising it.
If this is an attempt to please our neighbor to the south (Mexico), they have been pushing for a lightening up of immigration laws for a long time. I know it would be a boon to get stronger support from them in the war on terror but this is not the way to get it.
If this is an attempt to draw dissatisfied voters from the democrat party it may work. My fear is that it may make some Republicans vote Independant. There is an old saying “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you”. If this is an attempt to cross party lines and befriend Democrats, it will not work. I find myself sitting here thinking “I hope he knows what he is doing” because right now I don’t think many other people do!
UPDATE
Jan 27, 2004
In addition to this article, I have been looking at news feeds and reading news articles and listening to commentaries on TV and have come to the conclusion that I am not wrong. Immigration reform would be a terrible mistake. These illegal aliens came into America breaking the law and they stay here continually breaking the law. Rapes, robberies, murders, break-ins. Every area of crime is rising significantly and a large percentage of these crimes are being commited by these illiegal aliens. They bring their pregnant women into America so their children will be American by birth and welfare claims are rising astronomically. Between this “turning a blind eye” outlook on illegal alien problems, and NAFTA (the bane of the American working class) , the backbone and strength of America is being broken and it does not matter who is in office. The Democrats say we should even do more than this. What more can be done except move out of our homes and give these people our homes and land? I am in full support of legal immigration, but this illegal spurning of America’s laws by these illegal aliens and then accepting them by changing the law because they refuse to abide by law is ludicrous. If they refused to live by society’s laws by coming here illegally, what in the name of all that is holy makes you think they will live by law after changing it?
