I have heard dissention about whether our children should be taught the Pledge Of Allegiance and brought up to be patriotic.
I am amazed that this even has to be a topic for discussion.
The grassroots teachings of our nation have developed an educational system that will prepare them for life at public expense. This will not make them wealthy, It will open the window of opportunity to the world. This is invaluable.
They will be able to travel freely through the width and breadth of this great nation without checkpoints or having to present identification papers. They are free, free to do and live as they please. As Americans, most of us do not realize the significance of this vast freedom.
They will be able to extend their basic education and study any field they themselves choose. In most other countries, the State determines the extended education a person gets and this education begins at an early age. It is almost impossible to change fields when they are older because they are specialized but they are very limited to their field. Our extended educational system is almost unheard of in its open curriculim and potential to the rest of the world.
They will be able to purchase for themselves homes and properties or anything else they set their dreams to. This and many other freedoms are precious and blood bought by the lives of young Americans who sacrificed their dreams and ambitions to assure you have these freedoms.
They will be able to pursue the career of their choosing. Do you even realize the value of this freedom? If we could take a virtual trip through some of the socialist nations or the religously oppressed nations and speak to their people, you may find yourself first in line to teach your children the Pledge Of Allegiance or sing the Star Spangled Banner.
They will be able to travel and explore with backpack, bus, motor home, or airplane if they so choose the riches of our great land. The basic freedom of travel and enjoyment of life from sea to shining sea.
They will be able to marry whom they choose but only if the other is willing. The struggle to ensure freedom and integrity of life for everyone without regard to gender, race or cultural background was hard won. Do not think this came easily or cheaply. Do not think this and every freedom we enjoy came without dedication and love for the principles of patriotic dreams.
They will be able to pursue happiness in any area of life that does not take away the rights of others. Living in a nation where every members rights are protected and fought for by even complete strangers is reason enough to fight for the flag that assures these principles of life.
They will not have to fear being arrested with no counsel and held without legal representation. Thank God in heaven above our nation is one nation in principle and undivided in its goals of basic freedoms for everyone. Let us work together and pray it continues in these times of divided principles. Some might say “what about those in Guantonimo? Are they not oppressed? They determined in the course of their lives that they wanted to set themselves for the destruction of our nation and destroy its people, its freedom and its principles. It does not matter where they are from. Just like a felon forfeits many of their citizenship rights. These murderers of the innocent have forfeited the right to continue their very existence. It is the goodness of America that treats them with dignity, feeds them, clothes them, gives them top notch medical care and teaches them that we not hate but at the same time, we cannot allow them to continue the course of killing and murder without repercussions. By their actions, they have committed themselves to military justice.
They will never have to fear having their door bashed in during the night and loved ones never hearing from them again. Find an elderly Jew who lived through the horrors of Nazi Germany or the missionary who suffered under the hand of the Japanese invasions in the pacific or someone who escaped from some of these communist countries or those poor women under the intolerable yoke of fundemental Islam or any number of others living under bondage to tyranny and ask them the value of America’s freedoms.
They will never have to fear ending up in a mass grave because of their beliefs. Ask the Iraqi’s about this. Ask the Iraqi’s what they think of the human shields who came over there to keep them under the hand of tyranny or ask them what they think of the Democrats who say we never should have gone or ask them how much they love George Bush!
If they fail they can start over again as many times as it takes. They will not have to be concerned about some socialist ideologist making a decision that they are no longer useful to society and shipping them off to a Siberia to work a salt mine until they die, and you don’t think our children should be taught patriotism.
If they become rich they know it is theirs to keep. If they are poor they can strive to make their lives better. They are free to pursue their ambitions and goals for personal wealth. Win or lose as individuals, it is a freedom that we must preserve under any circumstance.
If they choose to worship God, they can worship as they feel they should. There are groups trying to get Christianity out of America and American politics. It is Christian principles that has guaranteed that no one would be oppressed in America no matter what their religous creed. These opposers of Christianity are in a way like those who crucified Christ. They know not what they do!
They do not have to fear oppression. Let us pray this is always true in America, the land of the free. This will always be true as long as we teach our children to be patriotic.
They do not have leaders that have taken power by force. Let freedom ring by teaching our children to hold their hand over their heart and swearing allegiance to these truths that we hold self evident that all men are born with inalienable rights, among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
They will know that their leaders can be replaced if they are not served as they should be. Look at the socialist nations in Europe, even so called free socialism like France, Germany and many others. We should fall on our faces and thank God in heaven above for the wisdom he endowed our forefathers with. There are many in our great nation who would change this. We must not let it happen.
They will see during their lives that wrongs can be righted and that the right can prevail. They may even see that sometimes wrong can prevail, but they will have the opportunities to fight it and they have a proven system to fight it with. The American system of justice is unapproachable in the world community for its guarantees of protecting freedoms, slow as it sometimes is. How can we not teach our children to be patriotic?
They will have the right to disagree with their leaders and even protest publicly if they so feel. I get so angry when I see protestors on TV who I feel do not have any semblance of wisdom or understanding about them but I will be first in line to protect their right to peaceably assemble and protest.
Should our children be taught patriotism? It would be doing them and future generations an injustice to not teach them to be patriotic.
This kind of freedom only comes at a great price. Our children need to be taught this as surely as they need to know what a rain drop in spring feels like or what a sunset in the mountains looks like.
Patriotism needs to be so deeply ingrained in their soul that no tyrant, no dictator, no oppressor will ever be able to take it from them.
I feel like if someone does not believe in patriotism then they do not deserve this kind of freedom. Yet, even they have this same freedom. America, it is an amazing country.
